The father of Chiefs long snapper James Winchester was shot and killed Tuesday at Oklahoma City's Will Rogers Airport.

Mike Winchester, 52, an employee of Southwest Airlines, was in an outdoor airport parking lot when a gunman opened fire about 1 p.m. CT, Oklahoma City police announced.

James Winchester's agent, Ken Sarnoff, confirmed the NFL player's father had been killed.

The shooting appeared to have taken place near the bottom of a ramp leading from the airport's departure area.

id it's not known if the shooter knew Winchester, but "we have some basic information who the suspect might be." No further details about a possible motive were disclosed.

The suspect was still at large Tuesday evening.

Mike Winchester was a punter for the University of Oklahoma in 1984 and 1985. James Winchester also played for Oklahoma.
