The report adds:
“That could always change, of course, between now and the trading deadline on Oct. 29. Manning was only informed of the Giants’ decision to bench him in favor of rookie quarterback Daniel Jones on Tuesday morning, so one source cautioned that the situation is new and emotions are raw.”
The report notes the Giants “would consider granting any trade request” if Manning changed his mind and preferred to play elsewhere.
Manning has won two Super Bowls and started 232 games during his 16-years with the Giants. But, New York has struggled in recent seasons and Manning has been inconsistent in 2019 during the team’s 0-2 start.
The Giants selected Jones out of Duke with the No. 6 pick in the 2019 draft. The move was not popular with fans, however, Jones impressed in the preseason, completing 29 of his 34 passes for 416 yards with two touchdowns and no interceptions.

“Ultimately, this is a move that I felt was best for this team at this time,” Shurmur said in a press release. “I have said it since I got here, I am very fond of Eli. His work ethic, his preparation, his football intelligence. All those attributes are as good as I have ever seen in a player. And Eli worked as hard as you could ask of anybody to get ready for this season. This move is more about Daniel moving forward than about Eli.”
New York is scheduled to face the Buccaneers in Tampa Bay in Week 3.
