The 76ers haven’t closed the door on Andrei Kirilenko joining them — yet.

Philadelphia coach Bretty Brown told that the team did not acquire the veteran with the intention of releasing him.

The 76ers have suspended Kirilenko for not reporting to the team.

“I sat down with him and had coffee with him the last time we were here. I wanted to get in his head and see what he was thinking. I went through that exercise and got excited. I wanted him to share his wealth of knowledge with the team along with Luc (Mbah a Moute). That we always intended to release him — that is not accurate,” Brown said.

It’s been nearly two months since Kirilenko, 33, last played for the Nets. The German-born big man has only played games in the New York area due to personal reasons.
